The SQ3R Method
SQ3R is an acronym that stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. SQ3R is a reading method that assists students/people in reading to gather and analyze information. Often SQ3R is used when reading to learn material. The SQ3R method relies not only on a student’s reading ability but his/her note taking and study skills. The method, in its entirety, is a way to improve reading comprehension and increase knowledge retention. The method is not to be viewed as a “ready-made complete” study regime.
In order to apply the SQ3R method a learner must first understand how to use the method. The following is an overview of each step in the SQ3R process. Note that learners may make adaptations in order to suit his/her study regime and learning style.
